The Adrian wrestlers competed in the Section 3A Individual Tournament last Friday and Saturday.  The Dragons were able to have two wrestlers place in the top two, earning the opportunity to battle for a state individual title this weekend at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul.  Scot Edwards won the HWT division, while Jesus Anaya earned a 2nd place finish to move on to the state tournament.

106 – Jesus Anaya earned a 10-3 decision in his quarterfinal match, defeating Caden Swoboda of W/ML.  Anaya’s semifinal match was an exciting one, as the Dragon wrestler came from behind to force OT with Minneota’s Zack Fier.  Anaya was able to earn a take down in OT to advance to the finals.  In the finals, Jesus squared off against Logan Buxton of JCC.  Buxton was able to counter the offensive attacks by Anaya, decisioning the Dragon wrestler.  The loss put Jesus in a true second match where he squared off against Troy Parulski of St. James.  Anaya dominated the Saint wrestler, earning an 11-3 major decision  and earning a bid for the state individual tournament.  He will take his 33-5 record to Excel Energy Center next weekend to battle for a state title.

113 – Breyer Hieronimus finished in 6th place in his weight class.  Hieronimus lost his first match to Matthew Haley of JCC.  In the wrestlebacks, he received a bye, before losing to Nate Bobendrier of Pipestone.  Hieronimus then squared off against Haley again, falling to the JCC wrestler for the second time in the tournament to earn 6th.

120 – Logan Taylor finished in 3rd place in his weight class, going 2-2 in the tourney.  Taylor pounded his way to the finals, dominating Jayden Torgeson of TMB/WWG and Jake Wagner of Canby on his way. Taylor earned a major decision over Torgeson, before controlling Wagner en route to an 8-2 decision.  Logan squared off against Payton Handevidt in the 120 pound championship, falling to the JCC wrestler by a 6-1 margin.  The loss forced a true second match, where Taylor took on Kade Lozinski of Minneota. Lozinski earned an early takedown and was able to hold on for the victory, putting Logan on the 3rd place spot on the awards stand.  Taylor ended his season with a 33-9 mark.

126 – Rilee Heidebrink lost his first two matches, eliminating him from the tourney.

132 – Isaac Bullerman earned a tech fall over Braydan Gravdal of Canby in his first match of the tourney.  Bullerman then lost to Minneota’s Teddy Pesch in the quarterfinals.  The loss put Isaac in the wrestlebacks where he pinned Allen Tubbs of Pipestone, before losing a one-point decision to Gach Mar of Madelia-Truman.  The loss to Mar eliminated Bullerman from the tourney before the medal round.

138 – Brody Loosbrock finished in 6th place, going 1-4 in the tourney.  Loosbrock lost his quarterfinal match, before earning a decision over Josh Hesse of Wabasso-RRC.  The win propelled Brody into the medal round where he lost his next two matches to finish in 6th place.

145 – Logan Sherer earned a 5th place finish, going 2-2 over the course of the tourney.  Sherer lost his first match to Jonah Grueness of Minneota.  A win in the consolation quarterfinals over Hunter Cleveland of Canby put Logan in the medal round.  Sherer lost to Justin Heckard of JCC in the consolation semis, before earning a decision over Carson Wipf of Pipestone to claim 5th place.

152 – Quentin Wolf was eliminated one match before the medal round, going 1-2 in the tournament.  Wolf lost his first match to Carter Mix of JCC, before earning a fall over Tate Walerius of Minneota in 2:52 in the wrestlebacks.  Quentin lost his next match to Landon Hoppe of St. James, ending the Dragon 8th grader’s section tournament.

160 – Preston Nelson finished in 6th place, going 2-3 in the tournament.  Nelson lost his first match to Cole Vanoverbeke of Minneota, putting the Dragon wrestler in the wrestlebacks.  Preston worked his way to a 16-2 major decision over Emilio Garcia De La Cruz in his first wrestleback match.  His consolation quarterfinal match was against Damian Osland of Wabasso-RRC.  Nelson earned a decision over the Bobcat junior to advance to the medal round.  Losses to Austin Axford of TMB/WWG and Noah Steffen of Canby put Preston in the 6th spot on the podium.

170 – Cameron Wieneke got off to a good start in the section tournament, earning a 9-5 decision over Angel Campos of Pipestone.  The win put Wieneke in the quarterfinals where he took on the #1 seed, Jace Paplow of TMB/WWG.  Paplow earned a fall over Cameron, putting the Dragon wrestler in the wrestlebacks.  Wieneke lost his first match in the consolation round, eliminating him from the tournament.

220 – Jaren Winselman lost his first two matches of the tournament, eliminating him from the tournament before the medal round.

285 – Scot Edwards forced his way to his second consecutive Section 3A HWT title by pinning both of his opponents in the first period.  Edwards disposed of Cory Anderson of Wabasso/RRC in his first match, before pinning Sam Bauer of TMB/WWG in the finals.  Edwards will take a 25-1 record to the MSHSL State Individual Tournament this weekend.
