The Adrian Dragon wrestling squad qualified for the MN State Wrestling Team Tournament for the third time in three years
The Adrian Dragon wrestling squad qualified for the MN State Wrestling Team Tournament for the third time in three years as they defeated the Marshall Tigers in the semifinals, before winning the section 3AA championship over the TMB Panthers.

Adrian made quick work of the Tigers as they won 13 of the 14 matches with five wins coming by fall. Brock Bullerman earned a first period takedown against Nate Zeinstra. Bullerman worked hard and held on to win the match 2-0. Jason Jeremiason earned the only win for the Tigers as he won by technical fall over Luke Tiesler at 112. Stephen Loosbrock regained the lead for the Dragons with a 3-0 decision at 119 pounds. Matt Gades followed as he controlled his opponent, earning a 6-1 decision. Tony Thier earned the first bonus points for Adrian as he teched Sam Oglesby in 3:37. Tanner Loosbrock and Brandon Bullerman glued their opponents in the first period, giving Adrian a 26-5 advantage. Andy Heitkamp battled Ethan Lundberg at 145 pounds. Heitkamp wrestled well, pulling out the one-point decision, 7-6. Zach Reker pinned Adam Oakland in 3:01 at 152 pounds. The Tigers gave Clint Metz a forfeit at 160, pushing the Adrian lead to 41-5. Tyler Wagner forced over Dan Marron, earning the fall in 3:30. Dalton Engelkes received a forfeit at 189 pounds, before Nate Engelkes matched up against Caleb Bruns in the 215 pound bout. Nate earned a first period takedown, taking a 2-0 lead into the second period. Bruns took the neutral position in the second period, only to be taken down to his back and pinned by Engelkes in 2:27. Will Lutmer ended the dual with a 10-4 decision over Blake Nath in the HWT bout, making the final score 62-5.

The Panthers of TMB earned their chance at the #1 seeded Dragons by avenging an earlier defeat to WMLBO, by defeating them 36-24. The Dragons defeated the Panthers earlier in the year by a score of 36-25. Adrian knew that they had to be ready to go as the Panthers were coming off of an upset over the Cobras. Brock Bullerman started things as he wrestled tough, defeating Zach Campbell 6-2. TMB battled back as they took the lead by winning the next three matches. Chia Thau held on for a 9-6 decision over Luke Tiesler at 112 pounds. Stephen Loosbrock came up on the short end of a 7-3 decision in the 119 pound bout against Luke Prairie. TMB took a 9-3 lead after the 125 pound match as Cole Cooreman earned a 13-0 major decision over Matt Gades.

The Dragons got back on track, as Tony Thier earned a takedown in OT to defeat Derek Evans at 130 pounds. TMB found some new life at 135 pounds, as Chad Cooreman earned a fall with one second left in the period over Tanner Loosbrock. With the Panthers up 15-6, Adrian needed to come up big in the next few matches if they were to win the dual. Brandon Bullerman got things going as he won by injury default over Cody Arnold at 140 pounds, bringing the Dragons within three points. In one of the key matches of the night, Andy Heitkamp squared off against Drew Hebig at 145 pounds. The match was filled with excitement as Hebig earned a reversal with less than a minute to go in the match to take a 5-3 lead. Hebig tried to put the legs in with 20 seconds left, only to have Heitkamp slip his arm through, earning a reversal and two near fall points with less than ten seconds to go to win the match. Zach Reker followed with a 10-2 major decision over Andy Nelson at 152 pounds. Leading 19-15, it was very crucial that the Dragons stay off of their backs to win the dual. Clint Metz battled off of his back, only giving up a major decision to James Prairie at 160 pounds. The Panthers put one of their best wrestlers on the mat at 171 pounds, as state-ranked Paul Carlson squared off against Tyler Wagner. Wagner earned a reversal and an escape, but came up short with his last second attempt at a takedown, losing 4-3 to Carlson. The three point lead evaporated quickly for TMB as Nate Engelkes forced over Dan Dieter, earning the fall in 1:48. A major decision by Cody Reverts could ensure the Dragons their third consecutive trip to the state tournament. The senior would not be denied, as he came away with a 16-2 major decision over Tyler Bauer at 215 pounds. Will Lutmer ended the dual as he has many times this year by earning a fall over Nathan Jacob, putting an exclamation point on the Dragon victory, making the final score 35-22 in favor of the Dragons. The Dragons will take their 31-7 dual meet record to the state tournament on March 2nd, as they will take on the section 1AA champion at the Excel Energy Center at 10:00 am in St. Paul.

Congratulations on a great regular season and an excellent showing in the section 3AA team tournament!
