The Adrian “Christmas in July” celebration was held Saturday, July 17th. The hot weather wasn’t enough to keep the crowds away and they were rewarded with plenty of events to enjoy and good food to eat.
The final clue started a rush to the tennis courts looking for the medallion Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning The medallion was found by Theresa and Thomas Graff on Wednesday. Theresa and Thomas went over to the tennis courts after seeing the crowds and looked around. Theresa was shocked when it fell on the ground after she ran her hand across the net.
The day started with the Adrian Town and Country’s 4th Annual Christmas in July 5K run/Walk and 1/2 Mile Kids Run. The runners had a lot of fun in the “hot” sun! There were 40 participants who ran the 5K Run, 15 for the 5K Walk, and 15 for the Kids 1/2 Mile Run. Awards were given to the top finishers in 4 different age groups for the 5K Run. The 5K Run winners were: Chris Reisdorfer with a time of 19:15, Jase Pater 19:45, Mary Lonneman 23:26, and Robert Fuhrman 26:25. The Kids 1/2 Mile Run participants enjoyed their juice and goody bags when they finished their run around the Adrian camp grounds. Everyone did a great job and we hope to see then back next year.
The Adrian campground hosted the annual frisbee golf tournament. The tournament had 49 participants. The winner in the Advanced bracket was Jared Pittman, in the Womens the winner was Tanika Johnson and Justin Holinka took first place in the novice bracket.
The St. Adrian grounds held plenty for the kids to enjoy with the inflatables. The Zoo mobile educated and entertained a steady stream of kids and adults. Even Santa made an appearance to make balloon animals.
The parade, with Grand Marshalls Henry Peterson and Dean Schaible, featured floats with class reunions, floats with sports themes, plenty of candy to go around and even some beef sticks for the adults.
A crowd gathered after the parade to watch the second annual duck race. It was a tight race and taking home first place was Lisa Vander Maten.
A large crowd braved the weather to watch the Miss Drag Queen Adrian contest and were entertained by the contestants. Taking home the crown and bragging rights was Cory VanBriesen. We look forwad to seeing who will challenge him for the crown next year!
The Adrian Town and Country Association will take a deep breath and enjoy the success of this years celebration and start planning next year’s celebration.
