Adrian’s Christmas in July celebration will be this Saturday, July 21st but there are events scheduled throughout the weekend. The theme for this years celebration is “Just Cruisin’.” Come join us as we go “cruisin” through Adrian and see what activities are planned for this weekends celebration!
The fun begins on Friday this year as we cruise behind Adrian City Hall and find the 1st annual “Ribs and Rims” fund raiser. “Ribs and Rims” will kick off at 5:30 pm and will go until the ribs are gone. Baby back ribs will be served along with baked beans, chips and ice cream. It is a free will donation with profits going to the Adrian, Ellsworth, Rushmore and Lismore Fire Departments and the Adrian Ambulance. There will be a beer garden on the grounds. The United Methodist Church will have old fashioned carnival games for kids of all ages and adults too during the ribs and rims event. Test your skills at the ring toss, basketball shoot or knock down a few bottles. All proceeds will be donated to Imagine: for malaria, the international effort to eradicate malaria world-wide. As you cruise into Adrian don’t forget to bring your “ride” down to the rims part of the event. If it has wheels they want it down at the show. Bring your cars, trucks, tractors, bikes, golf carts, etc. and show off your ride. There is no entry fee or prizes, this is for fun only.
On Saturday we continue with the fun as we cruise down to Lower Park for the run walk at 8 am. For those interested in the disc golf tournament there will be a meeting at hole one at the disc golf course at the campground at 8 am. Cruise down to the Lower Park at 10 am to watch some sand volleyball, as up to ten teams vie for the top spot in the tournament.
As you work up an appetite taking in the events remember that the food booth at the fire hall will be serving pork burgers, hot dogs, chips, baked beans, pie and ice cream and pop from 11 am until 10 pm.
Get inside and beat the heat at the Adrian Elementary where there will be a craft show (remember only 5 shopping months until Christmas), inflatables for the kids, and games from 1 pm until 4 pm. There is another chance at retail therapy at the jewelry party at the Archery Club on maine St. from 4pm until 10 pm. This is a fundraiser for the campground.
The kiddies will be cruisin’ at the kiddie tractor pull at the Adrian State Bank parking lot beginning at 5 pm. Bring the kids down to participate, there is a free pop to all participants.
The highlight of the day and evening is the parade beginning at 7 pm. Grand Marshall for this year is Carl Kopplow who will also be celebrating his 90th birthday this weekend. Happy Birthday Carl!! The heat can’t keep Santa and Mrs. Claus away from the celebration and the Adrian Marching Band will be making their first appearance of the year in the parade.
The ducks will take to the street following the parade. The annual duck races will be held beside the fire hall. Be sure to buy you duck race raffle tickets and come cheer your duck on.
On Sunday the community is invited to the Adrian Campground Shelter for a community worship service from 8:30-9:30 am. The service is sponsored by Zion Lutheran and Adrian Methodist Churches.
Come to Adrian and cruise through a weekend of fun, food and laughs. There is something for everyone during “Christmas in July”.
