Funeral Services for Lois Poppen, age 97, of Luverne, MN, were held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Luverne. Burial was in the Adrian Cemetery. Lois passed away Friday, Jan. 11 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Luverne.
Lois was born October 2, 1915 in rural Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Grace (McCaughey) Munns. She attended school at Reading, Minnesota.
Lois married Herman Poppen on March 15, 1932 at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in rural Rushmore. The couple farmed in Nobles County for several years before moving to Adrian. Herman passed away July 21, 1963. Lois started the school lunch program in the Adrian Public School in 1948 and was the manager and head cook until she retired November 1, 1980.
In July of 1980, she moved to the Centennial Apartments in Luverne. Lois was a member of the Luverne United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the RSVP and Senior Citizens, Dinning Center, Royal Neighbors and Adrian Cemetery Board. She was named Rock County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1992.
She is survived by a son, Roger (Judy) Poppen of Sebring, FL; two daughters, Frances (Donald) Jueneman of Apache Junction, AZ, Shirley Taylor of Minnespolis, MN; eight grandchildren, Julie Poppen; David, Steven, and Alan Jueneman; Jeff, Mark and Scott Taylor; Michael Poppen; five great grandchildren; six siblings, Ralph Munns, Bob Munns, Mike Munns, Lowell Munns, Ronald Munns and Donna Burt.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a grandson, Danny Poppen; and three brothers, Bill, Jack and Harvey.
