Our sympathy to Norb Scheidt and his family in the death of Shirley Scheidt on January 30, 2013. Shirley died at the Luverne/Sanford Hospice Cottage. Her visitation and funeral Mass was held Saturday, February 2nd at St. Adrian Church, where she was also married in 1952. Shirley and Norb had six children, Kenny, Keith, Don, Theresa, Tom and Donna (deceased). They have 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Shirley will be remember for her hard work and her wonderful sense of dry humor! It was a delight to visit with her. I understand that Shirley and her daughter Donna planned their funerals! The two funerals were beautiful and their choice of music was impressive. Father Andrew Beerman officiated at Shirley’s funeral. It was so good to see so many family members and friends who came from a distance to pay respect to Shirley and her family. God Bless the memory of Shirley (Jepson) Scheidt.

The Henning get-together was held in Brandon, SD, on January 16th. Those attending were: Carol Henning, Rosie Woltjer, Rosie Henning, Loretta Henning, Al Henning, Hap and Arlene Henning, Ceal Altman, Donna Deutsch, Betty and Walt Deutsch, and Les and Sandy Henning. Isn’t it great that this family meets every month to eat, visit and laugh?

Pinochle scores for 1-31-13 were as follows:

1st - Bev Metz & Sue Egan. Sue had a double federation! 2nd - Big Orv and Eric Palaschak - 3rd - “Cannon” Mueller and Mike Schettler. Saw Marilyn Bergman at the game Saturday and she stated it was too cold and too far for her to come to play Pinochle! Of course she lives way over by Magnolia!

Don’t forget the benefit for Baby Kaden VandenBerg to be held February 9th at the Hills Christian in Hills, MN. It starts at 5 to 7 with a silent auction. The live auction starts at 6:30. There will be lots of food throughout the evening. Kaden , son of Susan and John VandenBerg has a long road ahead of him with huge medical expenses. If you cannot go to Hills, be sure to send a check to the American Reformed Church, Hwy. #75, Luverne, MN, 56156 and stipulate on the check that it is for the VandenBerg benefit! Take a look at your healthy children and “seize the moment” and write a check! You will be blessed.

Gleaned from the 1-22-13 Argus Leader Sports: Casey Schilling a freshman playing for Augustana is out for at least a month with a hand injury! Casey from Ellsworth is one of five freshman to start a game this season for the Augustana Vikings!

Don’t forget the Wilmont Recreation Center is having their big grilled steak fry on February 10th starting at 5:00 p.m. The Rock/Nobles Cattlemen will do the grilling. Lets help our Wilmont neighbors keep their Center! The meal will be delicious.

Not a lot of news during these cold days, but what a great night it was on Friday, February 1st when two great basketball games were played and won by our Dragon basketball boys and girls! Yes, our Boys Varsity beat Southwest United Wildcats by a score of 88-76! This is the first game our boys have won and the large crowd let them know just how great they are! The Dragons had five players in double figures! They shot 77.3 percent at the free throw lane! Now you remember there is not a senior on this team! Mr. Schanible and Mr. Sandager are great coaches and those 12 young men never gave up! It was such a joy to see those Dragons win! Congratulations to a great young team.

The Adrian Dragon girls won another great game 57-51, also against Southwestern United on Friday night. The girl’s game started at 6:00 p.m. During halftime and also between the two games we were entertained by four groups of lovely dancers! The “Just for Kixs” dancers really had a good performance! We also had the pep band who played the Star Spangled Banner. All in all it was a great Friday night with a very big crowd! I’m so glad that I am still able to attend the home games. I must admit that I said lots of prayers that night and I know God hears every prayer!

Not too early to start writing about the 20th Annual Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction to be held on Saturday, April 12th. This area has been outstanding in supporting the Hospice program! You are all so gracious when the volunteers call or stop to, again, ask for your donations or “Memory Ads.” With this event we can continue to care for future hospice patients and their families. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity!

The Super Bowl! What can I say? It had everything anyone could possibly want to see! I really was pulling for Baltimore - only because Grandson Christopher Taylor graduated from Baltimore!

Congratulations to our Adrian Dragon Snow Queen Sam Croat and Snow King Lucas Dohlmann! They were presented to the fans last Friday at the basketball games.

Nic Lutmer, who is a sophomore at Central Lyon, is making a name for himself in basketball! He is the grandson of Bob and Mary Lutmer of Adrian.

I found this wonderful poem in the Methodist bulletin! Reread it several times!

Heavenly Father, help me be

More like You, and less like me!

Not my will, but Thine be done,

From dawn’s first light to setting sun.

At eventide, then may I rest

Assured that I have done my best.

Within my heart, sow seeds of love,

And bring the harvest from above,

That all I meet may truly know

My Lord and Savior where I go.

Heavenly Father, help me be

More like You, and less like me!
