Major Christopher & Janelle McAlear and Sidney & Logan of Waukomis, OK, spent their leave last week at the home of her parents, Gene & Mary Metz.  They spent time visiting Gil and Vonnie Metz at the Veterans Home in Luverne and with Margie & Dean Wieneke in rural Adrian.  Jeanine Kahle, Jacob, Ava and Emma of Brookings, SD, came along for the trip to the Nobles County Fair on Saturday.  The animals and rides were a hit.  Michael & Nicole Metz and Brycen & Austin of Rushmore joined them on Sunday for tubing at the Kahle cabin on Lake Shaokotan after taking in the parade in Ivanhoe.  John and Jacob drove a Steiger 600 in the parade—the largest Case International tractor made.  Sidney spent two nights with Morgan Metz, went to a movie and did girl things—nails and makeup.  Chris, Gene, Michael and Austin even got Brycen’s swing set put together. It was a week filled with family fun.

The Lismore Fire & Rescue had a great turnout for their annual fundraiser of all-you-can-eat BBQ Pork or Turkey on Saturday evening.  The soft-serve ice cream was a hit with the young and old.  If you were lucky enough to win a prize, that was even better!

Ruth Lorang popped up in a picture in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader on Sunday.  She was participating in the Eastern South Dakota Heart Walk at Falls Park, walking in honor of her granddaughter, Phoebe Vargas of Dell Rapids.  Close to 2500 walkers were out to raise money and awareness for beating heart disease.

A hog barn fire at the Jeff Tweet farm was discovered on Friday morning. The cause may have been electrical in nature.   Luckily there were animals that survived and the Tweets or the firemen that responded to the call incurred no injuries.

Have you marked your calendar for the St. Anthony Church Bazaar and Auction on September 8th.  An excellent meal, fun games, unique gift/auction items and a good time for all is on the agenda!

The American Legion will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, September 9th beginning at 7:00 p.m.
