Nicole Slater finish in first place at sections in a time of 14.44.
We wish Nicole all the best at this weekend’s State Championship.  She seems to be peaking at the right time and has a great chance to be Adrians first overall State Champion.
On a cool but pleasant Thursday, October 24th afternoon, the Adrian Dragons and the Adrian Country Club hosted the Section 3A Championship.  The same course from 2 1/2 weeks ago was repainted and set to present the over 240 runners an opportunity to qualify for the State Championship this coming Saturday. The Varsity Girls 2.5 mile (4000 meter) race was up first at 4:00.  The r

ace consisted of 121 runners, only 8 more than our Adrian Invitational race.

The quick start of the race had the top runners jump to the front.  Adrian’s own Nicole Slater, Madison Schandelmeier from local Luverne, and Kayla Huhnerkoch of Redwood Valley raced ahead followed closely by Alaysia Freetly from Lac Qui Parle Dawson Boyd.  The top three ran neck and neck for the first mile and a half.

Nicole then grabbed a gust of energy and took the lead, never relinquishing it. Nicole had a strong and smooth stride that improved her time from our Invitational by 56 seconds.  She won easily, 18 seconds before the second place Schandelmeier with an all-time top Adrian Varsity Girl’s time at the Adrian course of 14:44.

The gun started off the Varsity Boy’s race at 4:45 sending off 117 races off on their 3mile (5000 meter) race.  The boys matched the girls and shone with better times and placeings.

Taylor Recker ran hard, trying to tie down a trip to the same State Championship race. The first Adrian finisher fought hard passing one more runner in the final stretch to capture 15th, 20 places better than his Invitational placing.  His 17:54 time bested his earlier race of 19:01 by 67 seconds.  Unfortunately for Taylor, he was three places out of qualifying for State.
