A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie Elizabeth Schissel, 92, of Albertville, Minnesota, was held Friday, October 25, 2013, at The Church of St. Albert in Albertville, MN. Marie began eternal life in heaven on Friday, October 18, 2013.

Marie was born June 23, 1921 in Woodstock, Minnesota to parents, George and Caroline Probst. She had eight brothers and sisters and grew up in Wilmont, Minnesota.

She married Edward “Billy” Schissel and they lived in Lismore, Minnesota and raised eleven children.  Billy passed away in 1976.

After retirement from Campbell Soup Company in Worthington, Minnesota, she sold her family home and moved to the Twin Cities where most of her children and grandchildren lived. Marie liked to joke that she was busier in retirement than ever before. Along with caring for many grandchildren, she enjoyed an active social calendar with friends at the Cottages of Albertville, Minnesota.

Marie was known for her strong faith and dedication to her family. Her desire to strengthen family bonds inspired her to take on documenting her genealogy. Along with her talent as a seamstress, her cooking was legendary. Marie recently published her own cookbook.

Marie was preceded in death by her oldest daughter LaVonne Broberg, and is now dearly missed by her other children: Marilyn (Gary) Lievers: Marvin (Jan) Schissel: Gene (Cheryl) Schissel; Janice (Gordy) Spoelstra; Shirley (David) Duerr; Roxanne (Butch) Peklo; Nadine (Jim Miley) Schissel; Julie Loosbrock; Annette (Scott) Bauer and Teresa Merkl; along with her 28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Park View Care Center in Buffalo, Minnesota for their wonderful care for Marie in her final month gracing this earth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Park View Care Center, 200 Park Lane, Buffalo Minnesota 55313. Please specify that the gift is for resident activities in memory of Marie Schissel.
