Nicole finished in 72nd place in a time of 16.07 to finish her successful high school cross country years.
She may have lost the race but she has won the respect of her teammates, coaches, parents and friends, and most important fellow competitors.
The 2013 Cross Country Championship in Northfield, MN was set up to be a perfect day.  Forty-eight degree wea-ther, clear, warm, and very little wind promised the perfect conditions for the girls class A race for local qualifier Nicole Slater.

The 1:00, 2.5 mile (4000 mile) race had the competitors lining up along a 100 yard length along a fence.  Nicole was lined up in lane 21 with the other individual qualifiers from section 3A.  Nicole came out the second loop without any new runners behind her.  She ran a good race but could not move up into the ranks.  She made the last turn up the final hill and to the straight away finash.  She finished in 72nd place in a time of 16:07.  She would freely admit that it was “not where I wanted to be.”
