Last week, Saturday, December 28th, a large crowd gathered at the Meadows in Worthington to celebrate Helen Broesder’s 90th birthday. Lots of Helen’s family, relatives and friends were present to celebrate with her. There was much laughter, visiting and renewing old friendships and of course eating birthday cake! Congratulations Helen on your 90th!
That same afternoon, Joyce Mormann was in her bathroom getting ready to go to Helen’s party when she fell. Joyce laid there until Monday morning unable to get to the phone. On Monday, Rachel (Eickhoff) Hieronimus stopped at Joyce’s home to leave her two children for Joyce to take care of. The door was locked and so Rachel called Joyce’s daughter and finally help arrived. Joyce is in a swing bed in Luverne to recover. Please remember Joyce in your prayers.

Big Orv started pinochle again on January 2nd. and he had eight couples playing! Winners were: 1st~Ron Van Horsen and Mike Metz; 2nd~Sue Egan and Bev Metz; 3rd~Don and Robin Erlandson. Big Orv states that “Cannon” Mueller cannot win without Murphy!!
This old senior citizen went to the girls basketball game on a frigid night! The temperature was -9 below! The girls lost but they played hard. That little Elizabeth Thier had a great night. No school on Monday for the whole state of Minnesota.
Even though it was bitter cold on Sunday the Adrian people attended their church services. We are a hardy bunch! Thanks to Tony Lonneman who took my arm going into church. Hard to get rid of the ice in spots. Thanks to Wes Henrikson who checks on his renters on Tennessee Ave.
Christmas Eve dinner guests in the home of Les and Sandy Henning were Steve and Terri Elias, Alex, Justin and Ryan; Charlie and Jolene Henning, Ben, Brady and Broch; coming from Sioux Falls were Lon and Dora Henning, Eva and Zach. Guests from Fort Worth, Texas were Heidi (Henning) and Jim yakas and their children Michael and Norah. The Yakas family stayed for a weeks visit. They all had a great time together! This writer knows what a great cook Sandy is so there was no shortage of delicious food!

The Willy and Margurette Nath family were among the thousands who attended the last game in the Dome in Minneapolis. Those attending were Willy and Margurette; Vicky and Dale Ross, Baylee and Colen; Scott and Lori Nath, Paige, Autumn and Shelby; Rick Nath, Jessa and Piana; Izze Nath and Brayden Nath. They had great seats, a good motel and a good shuttle bus to the Dome. And the Vikings won by one point! There will be lots of changes in 2014.
Little bit of history about the Metrodome that I have mentioned before. Who drew the largest crowd in the history of the Dome? The answer is Rev. Billy Graham. Daughter Mary Taylor and I were both there. The noise in the Dome was unbelievable with two christian bands playing! When Mr. Graham came out and stood at the podium, you could have heard a pin drop!
Casey Schilling of Ellsworth is really making a name for himself! In the Argus Leader of 1-5-14 the article stated that Casey who is a 6’6” Sophomore and plays for Augustana made 27 points and 8 rebounds while playing against Minot State last week. How proud his family is and also the town of Ellsworth.
Christmas guests at the the Janice Hanson home were the following family members: Melody and David Maass of Naperville, TN; Nathan Maass of Charkeville, MO; Rachel Maass and Brian Barry of Chicago; Scot and Kari Stetson and Thaea of Madison, WI; Kris and Todd Mattson of Sauk Rapids, MN; Sibley Mattson of Minneapolis; Gunnes Mattson of Marshall; Mack Mattson of Morris; John and Amy Hanson, Ben and Noah of Falcon Heights; Wade Hanson of Watertown, SD; Amy and Michael Goldberg of St. Paul; Erin and Michael Waldman, James and Thomas of Mendota Heights. All the guests made a point to visit their Aunt JoAnn Johnson at the Adrian Health Care Center. They all had a good family get-to-gether with lots of laughter,visiting and reminiscing.
I hope some of my readers watched the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers where the weather was miserable. About -20 with wind chill!
After the football games CNN had a special “March of the Penguins”. It was a breathtaking special with beautiful haunting music. I am so glad I turned to CNN after the games.
Our Adrian Dragon wrestlers did themselves proud at the Clash XII dual team tournament in Rochester, MN. Adrian had a perfect 3-0 effort on the second day of competition! Adrian had major decisions by Jesse Slater, Tony Lynn, Matt Slater, Gavin Engelkes, Skylar Hieronimus and Ryan Elias! I do not know much about wrestling, so please excuse me if I made a mistake with this article. I do know that coach Gregg Nelson and his “crew” do a great job! Our wrestlers visited with teams from California and Oklahoma. The California school had a student body that was over three times larger than the total population of Adrian! They were impressed with the number and quality of our wrestlers! Great job guys.
