Dragon Cross Country holds end of the year banquet

The Cross Country team held their end of the year banquet on Friday, November 9th. The team looked to recap the season and distribute the end of the year awards.  The members of the cross country team were invited as well as their families.

The season began with a little more than a handful of runners, but after some students joined the team, the cross country team ended the year with 14 members. The team battled through one of the wettest falls in recent memory.  Each member of the team made huge improvements and had a lot of fun in the process. Three seniors led the Dragons this season. Madison Leopold has been a part of the team for seven seasons.  Halle Heitkamp has been running for seven seasons as well. Finally, Cole Domeyer joined the team this year and was a leader for the team.

The Dragons had nine letter winners this season. These members were seniors Madison Leopold, Halle Heitkamp, and Cole Domeyer, juniors Moriah Bullerman and Annika Elias, sophomores Gracia Elias, Morgan Penning, and Alysha Wieneke, and finally freshman Hiltyn Heitkamp.

The Dragons have five different team awards that are voted on by the team members. These awards include Most Valuable Junior High, Most Improved, Most Promising, Hardest Worker, and Most Value Varsity. The Most Valuable Junior High Runners were seventh grader Hunter Penning and seventh grader Bruce Farinella. The Most Improved Runners went to Alysha Wieneke, Hiltyn Heitkamp, and Bruce Farinella. The Most Promising Runner is given to an underclassman who could be the future of the program and was awarded to Gracia Elias and Bruce Farinella. Hardest Worker Award was given to Moriah Bullerman and Bruce Farinella. Finally, the Most Valuable Runner went to seniors Halle Heitkamp and Cole Domeyer.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2018 season successful. Your coaches are tremendously proud of everything that each of you has done throughout this season.  Coaches hope to see the same group of runners next fall, but a special thank you to our seniors. Your positive attitude and leadership will be missed next season.
