Dragons fall to Rebels in rivalry game

The Dragons dropped a rivalry game last Friday to visiting MCC.  The Rebels scored the first two touchdowns of the game in the third quarter to get the win.

Adrian kicked off to begin the game.  The Rebels were able to gain two first downs, one on a 30 yard pass play, before the Dragon defense forced a turnover on downs.  Adrian would then punt the ball after a third down sack put them in fourth and long.

The Rebels completed another long pass play on their next drive.  The Dragon defense was able to hold however, forcing a turnover on downs at the Dragon one yard line.

The Dragons moved the ball out of enemy territory to the tune of four first downs before the Rebels forced a punt on a fourth and long. The drive carried over to the second quarter with the game still scoreless.

The Rebels turned the ball over by fumbling after gaining a first down.  Lance Luettel forced the fumble while Axel Martinez recovered.  Adrian marched the ball down to the Rebel 15 yard line before turning it back over to MCC on downs.

A Marshall Wagner sack put MCC in a fourth and long and forced a punt on the next drive.  The Dragons moved the ball down to the eight yard line before time expired in the half.  At halftime, the game was tied at zero.

Adrian received the second half kickoff.  On the third play of the drive, a fumble was recovered by MCC.  The Rebels turned the turnover into points nine plays later with a three yard touchdown run. The two point conversion was good, making the score Adrian 0 MCC 8 with 7:58 left to play in the third quarter.

Adrian could not answer and punted the ball after three plays.  The Rebels kept the pressure on, this time scoring on another nine play touchdown drive.  The PAT was no good, leaving the score 14-0 MCC with 0:28 left to play in the third quarter.

The Dragons were able to answer this time when Brandon Schnoor capped a 13 play drive with a three yard touchdown run.  The two point conversion failed, leaving the score Adrian 6 MCC 14.

MCC answered immediately, running the kickoff back for a touchdown.  The PAT was good, extending the MCC lead to 21-6 with 4:58 to play in the game.  Both teams defenses did not allow another score in the game, giving MCC a 21-6 win.

Statistically, the game was evenly matched with MCC gaining 161 total yards to Adrian’s 160.  The Dragons gained 11 first downs to MCC’s nine.
