Dragons perform well at Paul Metcalf Invitational

On a day that could not be better for running, the Adrian Cross Country team traveled up to Mountain Lake to compete in their first contest of the season. The first race of the day was the girl’s varsity 5,000 meter run. Junior Moriah Bullerman set the pace for the Dragons, finishing 9th in an extremely competitive field of 103 runners, which consisted of 4 of the top 7 top ranked individuals girls in the state. Bullerman completed the course with an impressive time of 20:39. The second runner for the Dragons was sophomore Gracia Elias, who improved on her time from last year, and ran 25:37. Not far behind was freshman Hiltyn Heitkamp, who paced the course in 25:43. Senior Halle Heitkamp was the number four runner for Adrian, running 26:16. The final scoring running was sophomore Alysha Wieneke running 27:12.

The Dragon Junior High team highlighted two 7th graders with a great amount of potential for this year and the future. First to take on the 2,000 meter course was 7th graders Hunter Penning. In her first race, she placed 18th overall out of 50 runners and ran 9:51. The final race of the day for the Dragons included 7th grader Bruce Farinella. Farinella placed 35th out of 70 runners in a strong group of 7th and 8th grade runners and completed the run in 8:50.

The Dragons will have a busy schedule this week. They will race in Sibley on Tuesday, September 4th and race at Tracy on Thursday, September 6th.
