Dragons Send Two Wrestlers to State

The Adrian wrestlers participated in individual sections this past Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, in Canby.  11 of the 14 wrestlers who participated placed in the tournament. Brayan Anaya and Scot Edwards are the only two Dragons who qualified to participate in the state tournament this weekend (Feb. 28-29) at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. This will be Anaya’s second trip to the tournament and Edwards’ third.

106- Brayan Anaya went 3-0 in the tournament, securing a section championship, as well as a trip to the state tournament. In his first match of the tournament, Anaya faced Nolan Ambrose (JCC). Anaya won a 6-3 decision over Ambrose. In the semifinals, Anaya won with an 11-4 decision over Devin Carter (TMB/WWG). In the finals matchup, Anaya faced Lane Fink (Canby) and won the match by a 17-6 major decision.

113- David Anaya lost his first two matches of the tournament, resulting in his elimination.

120- After dropping his first match of the tournament, Reese Morrison defeated Ezequiel Munzon by a 4-2 decision. Morrison would end up falling to Thomas Freking (JCC) in the next round, sending him to the 5th round match. Morrison would go up against Carter Beranek (W/RRC) and win a 4-2 decision, resulting in a 5th place finish.

126- Breyer Hieronimus started his tournament with a loss in the quarterfinals. In his next match, Hieronimus defeated Carson Klein (F/MCC) by fall in :58.  After losing a 7-1 decision in the consolation semifinals, Hieronimus faced Wyatt Schmidt (Springfield) for the 5th place match. Hieronimus won the match by fall in 4:23, resulting in a 5th place finish.

132- Rilee Heidebrink would finish in 6th place for the tournament.

138- Logan Sherer started his tournament with a fall over Austin Knickrehm (SJA) in 2:00. After losing a 9-0 major decision to Brett Willaby (W/ML), Shere was able to pin Parker Viessman (Canby) in 3:31. Sherer would fall in the 3rd place match, resulting in a 4th place finish for the tournament.

145- Logan Taylor started his tournament winning by fall over Trenton Renquist (W/ML) in 1:42. In the semifinals, Taylor lost a 4-2 decision to Blake Reiss (Minneota). Taylor finished his tournament strong defeating Joe Anderson (Springfield) 12-8, and then defeating Grant Budden (Pipestone) 6-3. Taylor finished the tournament earning 3rd place.

152- Isaac Bullerman defeated Angel Campos (Pipestone) by fall in 1:36 in his first match of the tournament. In the quarterfinals, Bullerman would lose a 6-0 decision to Caden Johnson (TMB/WWG). Bullerman won his next two matches defeating Branden Johnson (Minneota) by fall in :32, and Josh Hesse (W/RRC) by a 3-2 decision.  In the 3rd place match, Bullerman faced Caden Johnson (TMB/WWG) for the second time in the tournament. In this matchup,  Bullerman fell just shy, losing a 4-3 decision. Bullerman finished the tournament with a 4th place finish.

160- Quentin Wolf started his tournament facing Amauri Perez-Garcia (MTML) and won by fall in 1:30. After losing his quarterfinal matchup, Wolf was able to defeat Conner Sik (Minneota) by a major decision 13-4.  In the next round, Wolf defeated Ashtin Johnson, after Johnson sustained an injury during the match, forcing him to injury default. In the consolation semifinals, Wolf would end up losing this matchup, sending him to the 5th place match. Wolf defeated Micah Holmberg (W/ML) by a major decision 15-3, securing a 5th place finish for the tournament.

170- Preston Nelson faced off against Aiden Voss (Pipestone) in the quarterfinals, earning a win by fall in 3:52. Nelson fell just shy in the semifinals after losing a 4-3 decision. In the wrestlebacks, Nelson defeated Christian Kuball (F/MCC) by a 4-1 decision. In the 3rd place match, Nelson defeated William Freking (JCC) by a 6-5 decision, finishing the tournament in 3rd place.

182- Cameron Wieneke started his tournament facing Trace Michelson (JCC) in the quarterfinals. Wieneke defeated Michelson by fall in 3:24. After losing by fall in the semifinals, Wieneke was able to defeat Ethan Langseth (Springfield) by fall in 4:57. In the 3rd place matchup, Wieneke found himself in a match-up that would require overtime to decide the winner. Facing Parker Verheist (Canby), Wieneke fell shy, losing a 6-4 decision. Wieneke finished the tournament in 4th place.

195- Roberto Hernandez lost his first two matches of the tournament, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.

220- Jaren Winselman won his first match-up of the tournament, defeating Griffin Willhite (W/RRC) by fall in 3:24. After losing in the quarterfinals, Winselman would defeat Koyer Wendorff (F/MCC) by fall in 1:50. Winselman would end up losing his next matchup, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.

285- Scot Edwards defeated Caden Miller (Pipestone) by fall in :22 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Edwards defeated Eli Mutz (W/ML) by fall in :55. In the finals round, Edwards faced Denver Noyes (Canby) and lost an 8-5 decision. Edwards finished the tournament with a 2nd place finish and a third trip to the state tournament.
