Section 3A golf underway

The first day of Section 3A tournament play took place on Wednesday, May 22nd in Worthington.  This was the first of a 2 day, 36 hole event in order to qualify for the state golf tournament.  The top 4 teams on day one and 25% of the remaining field advance to the final round to determine what teams and individuals qualify to move on to state tourney play.

The Adrian boys were scheduled to tee off at 9:00 a.m., however adverse weather and course conditions delayed the start by an hour and a half.  The boys teed off in rainy conditions and played much of their 18 holes in lesss than ideal conditions.  When the scores were finalized, the Dragons were tied for 5th place with a team total of 400 and missed advancing to the second day by one stroke.  This just goes to show the importance of every single stroke over the course of a round of golf.  The Dragons were led by Brock Henning (94) and Easton Braun (99), both of these scores allow them to move on to the second day of section play.  Logan Nogosek (102), Landon Runia (105), Landyn Loosbrock (107), and John Christians (145) rounded out the Dragon team at sections.  Adrian fielded a young boys team this season and look for good things in the future with this group of golfers.

The Adrian girls turned in a team total of 432 which was good for second place and the right to move on to day 2 of section play.  The girls are 25 strokes off the pace of 407 shot by the MCC girls.  Madelyn Odell led the Lady Dragons with a round of 101 which was good for 4th place after day one.  In 5th place with a score of 103 was Gracia Elias.  Josi Altman (113), Maddie Wagner (115), Annika Elias (117), and Taya Elias (120) are the other players on the Adrian girls team.

The final round of Section 3A tournament play will be held at the same venue in Worthington on Wednesday, May 29th.  Tee time for both the girls and boys will begin at 9:00 a.m.  The team champions and the next 5 lowest scores will earn the right to play in the Minnesota State Golf Tournament in June.
