Adrian News 10-9-19

The deadline to sign up to decorate a table and/or donate a gift basket to the Sanford Luverne Hospice Tour of Tables is October 14.  The office is located at 304 N. McKenzie Street in Luverne.  This is a fun event and goes directly to the Hospice program. You can go Friday night and view the tables and have a glass of wine, or go Saturday and get a great brunch!  Both are fun!

Tony and Darla Parsley are again collecting coats from now through the end of October.  If you have gently used coats of any size or any winter clothing, please drop them off at 517 Maine Ave., so someone who is in need will get warm clothes before winter sets in.

The first freeze is getting closer.  We made it through last week’s possibility.  Can we make through this week’s?  Have you noticed that the flowers’ colors are much more intense this time of year? The colors in the trees should be vibrant this year, but so far there is not much going on.  Hopefully they won’t just fall off!  With snow in the forecast for the end of the week-who knows!  What crazy weather.  If you haven’t tucked away plants that you want to winter, you’d better get it done early this week!  Dig out your shovels!

This is National 4-H week. 4-H is a great program for all kids, not just farm kids.  Check it out.  You may want to get involved.

Did you hear the news?  The Ellsworth and Adrian sports teams will be joining ranks, starting with basketball, as the Adrian- Ellsworth Dragons.  Games will be played at both schools. When the teams are playing in Adrian, they will wear Adrian colors and when playing in Ellsworth, they will wear Ellsworth colors.  Good luck and let’s stay positive.  Both schools need the pairing to stay viable in Minnesota sports conferences.

The Dragons had a good week last week.  The Cross Country team represented the Dragons well in Luverne.  Some of the runners ran in Luverne for the last time for their high school career.  The team has two more meets before sections begin.  The varsity football team dominated New Ulm 34 to 0 Friday afternoon.  The Volleyball squad had a very busy week.  On Oct. 1, they beat Edgerton in three matches; took out Pipestone in five on Thursday; went to Marshall on Friday and Saturday, and came out of the tournament winning three and losing two.  What a great week for the girls!  Up this week in sports: the football team takes on Springfield on Thursday at home, the Volleyball team has only one match this week on Tuesday in Slayton, and Cross Country hosts the Adrian Invite on Tuesday.  Good luck to all teams!

Blessed be the memory of Ruby Jean Janshen and sypmathies to her family and friends.

Chuck Fienhage of Wilmont, passed away on Saturday, October 5 at his home.  God bless the memory of Charles Fienhage.

Lawrence Loger is now resident at Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne recovering from his recent stroke.  Please keep in your prayers all of our area people that need extra healing.  Also remember our farmers.  When they get into the fields they will be going at top speed.  Keep your eyes open for farm machinery on the road.

Thought for the week:  Is there something crying out in you, “I wish I had a life….had some friends…. could lose some weight….could get out of debt.”  Well get up and get going.  Stop whining and moaning about it.  You are the only one who can do anything about it.  Take responsibility for your life and know that God is beside you every step of the way!

Have a great week!
