Adrian News 11-28-18

The Christmas season is in full swing.  I guess it has been for a few weeks already.  The Hallmark channels started airing Christmas movies at the beginning of November, and we’ve seen Christmas commercials take over since the election commercials faded into oblivion for another year (at least).  In the stores, everyone is decked out for Christmas and Black Friday has been and gone along with Cyber Monday.  What happened to Thanksgiving and the importance this slighted holiday used to have?  Hopefully everyone got to celebrate with friends and family, and it was a blessed and happy time for all.

Christmas open houses for the merchants in Adrian will be this coming weekend, November 30 and Dec. 1.  Check out the paper for their specials.  Remember to shop locally!

of cards and a huge birthday cake!  The weather cooperated, allowing travelers to make it without a hitch!

Tammy Ann Hoemberg, Kay Cox’s granddaughter loves to deer hunt.  While hunting on opening day with her uncles, her group was lucky enough to get two bucks.  It was a successful hunting trip.  Tammy is the daughter of Ann and the late Don Hoemberg.

The family of Helen Lonneman treated the residents of Adrian Country Cottages to an afternoon of fun with the family.  Grandaughters An

drea Kaufman and Tammy Veld baked cookies ahead of time and with the help of Cindy Lonneman, they had the residents and the Lonneman grandkids decorate dozens of cookies.  Each resident was given a plateful of cookies to share with their family and friends.  It was a fun afternoon!  Thank you to the Lonneman family for sharing!

Did you know that the Rushmore School building is available for renting for larger meetings or parties?  The Dean Hokeness family used the building for their family Thanksgiving.  Besides lots of room for lots of people, the gym is available for the kids (big and little) to use for playing basketball and other games.  The Hokeness family hosted all ages from Parker Riley, son of Mark and Jessica (Lynn) Riley, who just turned one, to Alice Hokeness who is 101 years old.  There was lots of great food and family togetherness!

AHS winter sports are getting ready to begin by the end of this week.  On Thursday, the MS GBB are at home, while the MS BBB are in Hills.  On Saturday, Dec. 1st,  the AHS wrestlers are at the Dell Rapids Tournament, and the varsity GBB and BBB are both at RTR.  Check the calendar for a complete listing of sports events.

Thought for the week:  We are afraid to be different, so we desperately try to keep up with all the other people in our lives and it wears us out.  Take a minute to stop and look closely at the reasons you are doing the things you currently do.  If any of them are being done out of fear – eliminate them.  You will be amazed at how much time you may have if you live a Spirit-led life and not a people driven one!

Have a great week!
