Adrian News 6-13-18

Another week closer to the first day of summer or as some like to put it, the longest day of the year and then the days start to get shorter.  I don’t like to think of the days getting shorter.  Summer is too short as it is!  My glass is half full!

We did manage to get some rain this past week, but if the garden is any indication, we could use more.  There was some hail with the system that came through last Friday and some damage.  Hope it wasn’t too devastating.  Other than that the crops look great!

Thursday is Flag Day.  Be sure to put up your flag!

On Monday, June 18th you can have “Coffee With Your Commissioners”.  They are meeting to address things important to you.  If you are interested, the coffee goes from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. at New Vision Co-op in Reading.

Kay Cox attended the salad and hot dish luncheon in Lismore last Wednesday.  She reports that there was a great crowd and great food.   A large array of hot dishes and salads were available for those attending.  Not one person went home hungry!

On Friday, June 15, there will be a benefit at Big’s Bar in Sioux Falls, SD for Steven Swayze, who was seriously hurt in an accident and has remained in a coma in the hospital.  The benefit begins at 5:00 p.m. and goes until midnight.  There is a long list of musicians that will be playing at this benefit.  The profits will go towards Steve’s expenses. The event is listed on Facebook Lee Rust of Luverne and Laura Bosch of Brandon were Friday afternoon visitors with Kay Cox.  They had a great visit!

Country Living Cottages is pleased to welcome a new resident, Matilda Lange.  Matilda is the mother of Anita Hallum.  She has been living in her home here in Adrian.  Welcome Matilda!

On Sunday, June 10, Father Richard Colletti celebrated the 40th anniversary of his Ordination into the Priesthood.  The Mass was held at St. Adrian Catholic Church. The parishes of St. Adrian, St. Anthony, and OLGC hosted the event. All parishioners from the cluster were invited to attend.  Fr. Colletti was ushered in by three Knights of Columbus in full dress attire.  Celebrating with Fr. Colletti was Bishop John Quinn.  After Mass there was a catered meal of roast beef, chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, salads, buns, and deserts. The churches worked together to let Fr. Colletti know how much they appreciate his service and leadership.  Congratulations and Happy Anniversary Fr. Colletti!

On Tuesday, June 26, everyone is invited to the Nobles County Golf Outing.  This event is put on by the Corn and Soybean Growers and the Rock-Nobles Cattleman Assoc.  If you are a paid member the steak dinner is free.  Contact the Adrian Country Club to get on the list.

Our deepest sympathies to Bruce and Kate McCann and their family for the loss of Bruce’s dad Vic, who passed away on June 4, 2018 in Colorado.  It’s always hard to lose a parent, no matter what the age.  Blessed be the memory of Victor McCann.

Our deepest sympathies also go out to the family of Marvin Rust.  Marv passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, in Luverne.  He has been a long time resident of our area.  Blessed be the memory of Marvin Rust.

Kay Cox was so pleased to have former neighbors, Lorraine Jones of Adrian and Karen Funk of Prior Lake stop to visit her.  Karen’s parents owned Ahler’s Steakhouse in Worthington for many years.  It was a joy to see them!

The family of Kay Cox got together at Gull Lake for the Memorial Day Weekend.  Kay unfortunately, didn’t attend.  A great time was had by parents, children and great-grandchildren.  Kay prayed fervently that no one would drown!

Remember to keep on praying for rain!

Be sure to check out the calendar and keep up on what is happening in our community.

Thought for the week:  When God pushes you to the edge, trust Him fully, because only two things can happen.  Either He will catch you when you fall or He will teach you to fly.  Have a good week!
