Regular Board Meeting October 16, 2017

Board Chair Lenz called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on October 16, 2017. Members present Kruger, Kunkel, Lenz, Madison, and Sieve.  Also present Superintendent Graff, Principals Koehne and Lofthus, Athletic Director Wange, and staff members Miller and Bertrand.

The following members were absent: Bullerman and Wolf.

Motion by Kruger, to approve the agenda as presented, seconded by Kunkel, motion carried.

Tuition Reduction Incentive Program (TRIP) update was provided by Mr. Graff.

Tim Bertrand provided information on a Bobcat skid-steer and Ferris Lawnmower and John Deere Lawnmowers.  Following review of quotes a motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to purchase the Bobcat skid-steer, with broom, bucket, pallet forks and snow blower attachments and the Ferris lawnmower from Jaycox Implement, with a trade in of the current Grasshopper lawnmower, motion carried.

Cate Koehne provided information on the issues with door closures, fixtures and security issues we are experiencing with the handicapped accessible doors.

Motion by Madison, seconded by Bob Kunkel to approve the minutes from the September 18, 2017 meeting, motion carried.

Motion by Kruger to approve the claims and accounts for the month of September 2017, seconded by Madison, motion carried.

Superintendent Graff presented the September 30, 2017 reports.  Motion by Sieve, seconded by Madison to approve the account balances for the month of September, motion carried.

Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report.

Gave an update on the events and happenings at the Elementary

Presented a check from Dollar General Literacy Grant in the amount of $2,813, motion by Sieve, seconded by Kunkel to accept grant, motion carried.

Mr. Wange presented his Athletic Director’s Report.

Gave an update on the fall sports.

Informed the board that there are no funds available from the Grant A Form.

Gave the fall sports post season status.

Cate Koehne presented her Principal’s Report.

Presented information on events and happenings at the Middle/High School

Presented legislative information on the ACT testing reimbursement.  Following discussion motion by Kunkel not to charge the Eleventh Grade students for the ACT test, seconded by Madison, motion carried.

Presented a donation from Justin Wieneke for Industrial Arts Supplies with an approximate value of $300.  Motion by Madison, seconded by Sieve to accept donation, motion carried.

Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:

Gave an update on the MASA and School Law Conferences he attended.

The Building and Grounds update was presented by Tim Bertrand earlier in the meeting.

Presented the Adrian Education Association 2017-2019 contract with an increase of 9.9 percent over the two years.  Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to accept contract, motion carried.

Presented the second reading of Policy 620 – Credit for Learning.  Motion by Sieve to adopt the policy, seconded by Madison, motion carried.

Presented the second reading of Policy 903 – Visitors to School Buildings and Sites, explaining the changes made to the policy.

Presented the second reading of the AHS Scholarship Fund Policy and Procedures, motion by Madison, seconded by Sieve to adopt policy, motion carried.

Presented and explained the Resolution for Special Election Polling Places.  Motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel to adopt resolution, motion carried.

Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to adjourn the October meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:17 P.M., motion carried.
