Regular Meeting  Adrian Board of Education

April 17, 2017

Board Clerk/Treasurer Kunkel called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:01 P.M. on April 17, 2017. Members present Kruger, Kunkel, Madison, and Sieve.  Also present Superintendent Graff, Principal Lofthus, Dean of Students Koehne, and staff member Lonneman.

Members Bullerman and Wolf were absent.

Motion by Kruger, seconded by Sieve, to approve and amend the agenda by adding item I., Health Insurance RFP to the agenda, motion carried.

Board Chair Lenz arrived at 6:02 and took over the order of the meeting.

Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to approve the minutes with a correction to the March 20 and March 27, 2017 meetings, motion carried.

Motion by Kruger to approve the claims and accounts for March 2017, seconded by Kunkel, motion carried.

Superintendent Graff presented the March 2017 reports. Motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel to approve the account balances for the month of March, motion carried.

Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report.

Presented a letter of resignation from the Elementary Secretary effective June 1.  Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to accept resignation, motion carried.

Presented a leave of absence request from S Wiertzema effective May 18 through remainder of the year.  Motion by Sieve, seconded by Madison to accept request, motion carried.

Presented information on an upcoming Professional Development days for the 2017-18 school year, with team members from both the Elementary and High School attending.

Gave an update on the application status for the Social Worker/Counselor position.

Cate Koehne presented her Dean of Students report and Jay Wange’s Athletic Director’s report.

Athletic Director’s Report

Presented a letter of resignation from R Strand for head football and head girls basketball coaching, motion by Sieve, seconded by Madison to accept resignation, motion carried.

Presented assigning head football coaching to R Schettler. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to approve assignment, motion carried.

Presented assigning head girls basketball to P Peters. Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve assignment, , motion carried.

Presented assigning J Hermeling as assistant girls basketball coach, motion by Madison, seconded by Sieve to approve assignment, motion carried.

Presented information regarding the replacement banners with a quote of $100 per banner.  Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kunkel to proceed with replacement at quoted price plus shipping, motion carried.

Received correspondence from the Luverne District regarding possible changes to their fee structure for Hockey.

Dean of Student’s Report:

Gave information regarding “Academic Day”, April 19th

Presented a request for the last day of school for the graduating class of 2017 to be May 24th, allowing teachers to complete their grades prior to graduation, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to approve request, motion carried.

Presented to reduce the Art Instructor position to a .50 part time position.  Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to approve request, motion carried.

Presented a leave of absence request from L Bonnett effective May 4 through remainder of the year.  Motion by Sieve, seconded by Madison to accept request, motion carried.

Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:

Presented a Building and Grounds update.

Presented pricing and financing information for a skid steer and mower.

Presented summer projects consisting of roofing repairs at High School, carpeting at Elementary and High School, and window replacement at Elementary.  Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kunkel to approve the roofing repair project, motion carried.  Motion by Sieve, seconded by Madison to approve the carpeting and window projects, motion carried.

Recommended to make up three missed school days on May 30, 31 and June 1 with an early release.  Following discussion a motion by Sieve, seconded by Kunkel to forgive the three student days with the teaching staff to make up the three contract days, motion carried.

Selected Board representatives for Graduation. Madison and Lenz will represent the Board of Education with Kruger as an alternative.

Handed out student enrollments dating back to year 2000 and showing the trends

Recommended to award the food service contract for Lunchtime Solutions for the 2017-18 school year, with a proposed 10 cent increase in breakfast and lunch prices for the 2017-18 school year.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve contract and a price increase for meals, motion carried.

Presented the agreement for Consulting Services for the District GASB75 benefits with Hildi, Inc., motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel to approve agreement, motion carried.

Presented a donation in the amount of $1,980 from the sales of t-shirts, in memory of Tim Christensen to be used for a memorial scholarship, motion by Kruger, seconded by Madison to accept the donation, motion carried.

Presented a donation in the amount of $250 for the LeRoy Domagala memorial scholarship, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to accept the donation, , motion carried.

Updated the board on the Group Health Insurance with the bid from Southwest West Central Cooperative matching the benefits the best.  Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kruger to approve quote, motion carried.

Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to adjourn the April meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:09 P.M., motion carried.
