Adrian News – August 3

A cool, cloudy Sunday greeted the hundreds and hundreds of folks who headed to Ellsworth to attend the pancake benefit for Ellsworth native Josh Nolte.  Josh had a ten-hour brain surgery and is recovering.  People came from many areas to help Josh with large medical bills.  Josh is the oldest son of Eileen and Dave Goedken and Mike Nolte.  He is a graduate of Ellsworth High School and lives in Lake Crystal.  Several people or should (I say quite a few?) couldn’t locate the Fire Hall in Ellsworth!  The pancakes were hot and delicious and there were lots of extras if you were still hungry.  The huge Fire Hall was spotless and filled with gleaming white tables.  There was a huge amount of baked goods offered for a donation, and a silent auction was held.  The coffee was so good on a cool day.  Lots of Adrian friends attended St. Mary Church for the 8:30 a.m. Mass and then went to find the Ellsworth Fire Hall!  A welcome short rain added to the enjoyment of the benefit.  Many signed a guest book, in fact there were over 850 signed. Josh will start chemo the first week in August.  Best wishes Josh Nolte and God Bless You.

Congratulations to our Legion #32 baseball team.  You made us so proud.

Thank God for our Adrian Medical Center and our dedicated P.A. Brenda Bullerman and the staff.  Brenda discovered the cancer near the eye of rural Adrian resident, Bobbi Leopold and sent her to Dr. Kelly Jerstad of Dakota Dermatology in Sioux Falls.  Another spot on Bobbi’s back was also tested and surgery was done the same day.  As this writer has had lots of skin cancer she can also thank Brenda Bullerman for her skills and knowledge.

July 27th edition of the Review has a whole page of the Menke Family who served our country in many wars starting in World War I.  There were seven Menke’s pictured. What a great sacrifice.

Speaking of serving, the July 27, 2016 edition of the Globe carried a great story of two brothers, Eddie and Bob Debates who joined the service and wanted to stay together.  They did for some time and then were parted. Both have lots to relive and some is not pleasant.  They are glad to have served their country, but both suffer from the service. Eddie lives in the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne and Bob lives in Adrian. They are so glad they can meet often and enjoy their freedom.  Thank you Eddie and Bob for your service.
