Adrian News – Dec 14

Last Thursday, December 8th was a very cold windy evening, but that did not stop 400 folks going to the Lorie Line Christmas Concert in the historic Palace Theatre in Luverne.  Lorie Line has played the piano all of her life and has even played in the White House for two presidents.

Main Street Financial in Luverne sponsored Lorie for their clients in this area.  Among the enthusiastic audience were Kay Cox and Joyce Broesder of Adrian.  Joyce Broesder was a piano teacher for over 30 years while also holding down a full time elementary teaching career.  It was a great evening of music, laughter and even Santa Claus. At one point Lorie asked the large audience to call out their favorite songs. She then proceeded to sit at the huge Baby Grand Piano and play every song by heart.  A standing ovation indeed. Thanks Main Street Financial for a special Christmas concert.

Good reading about Pear Harbor in the December 7th issue of the Daily Globe.  Former Adrianite, Gene Erlandson, was featured on the front page.  Gene now lives in the Luverne Veterans Home and was involved in the tragedy of Pearl Harbor and the start of World War II. Writer Julie Buntjer did a great job interviewing Gene and telling the story of Pearl Harbor.

Two Buck Day was held on Monday, December 12th.  Providers were Bob and Catherine Bauer.  40 happy dining guests enjoyed the hot chicken noon dinner.  There was lots of chatter to go along with hot coffee.  Senior Center manager is now Marie Schwebach and is doing a great job.  Call the center for reservations and information about the meals or being a provider.  The number is: 483-2588.  Thanks Bob and Catherine.

A Daily Globe writer wrote such a beautiful informative article last weekend, December 10-11th.  It tells the comforting of Father Jim Callahan, Pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington.  After the election of President-elect Donald Trump, Father Callahan went to the school to comfort and assure the students who had fear of being separated from their parents.  It is a heartwarming article about the immigrants in Worthington and how St. Mary’s Church is helping to provide support and advice to those in need. Thank God for Fr. Callahan.

Catholic Daughters Court #247 of Adrian held their annual Christmas Party December 8th at the Nobles County Development Center in Worthington. The 61 clients and staff members all received a gift from Santa Claus.  Refreshments of root beer floats and Christmas cookies were eagerly received.  Making the trip were Regent Sue Buffington of Luverne; Lenore and Lynette Domeyer, Worthington; and Paula Goedken, Rita Domagala, Carol Rupp and Cindy Bullerman all from Adrian.  The Court in Adrian has entertained the D.A.C. clients for many years.  They also put on a grilled hamburger and pork burger noon luncheon in the summer. The clients love it when “The Ladies” come to visit.  Merry Christmas to everyone.
