Adrian News – July 6

Much has been written and talked about for St. Kilian’s BIG day!  This next story is about one family who met and enjoyed every minute of the activities.  The Henry Pass family planned many weeks to meet in the big tent and rehash memories.  Seven out of nine Pass family members had a great time and mostly talked about “old times.”  Punky (Pass) Dorn and husband Joe were among the hundreds who enjoyed everything.  The steaks were fabulous!  They came from Lee’s Locker in Lismore and Lee helped with the grilling.  Lee is the son of the Late Tim Henning and Mom, Bridget.  There was plenty of food.

Now the rest of the story… while St. Kilian had a big well-planned day, the Dorn’s had 35 family members at their home to take in the 20th Annual Dorn Open of Adrian’s beautiful golf course.  The family planned everything so well that they didn’t miss Joe and Punky leaving for St. Kilian!!  Here are the scores given to this writer; Mark, Amy and Bob Dorn, Sammie Schutz and Holly Kammer taking first place. with a score of 7 under par.  Ashley Warren won ladies long drive; Marty Schutz was closest to the pin; Joe Dorn won both men’s drive and longest putt.  The green jacket (most valuable player) was won by Barb Dorn in 2015, to son Bob in 2016!  The winner’s names were put on a plaque and the organizer for the year puts a page in the Dorn open book.  They all had a great time and enjoyed getting together and playing golf.  Thanks Punky for news!

Our sympathy to the Father Eugene Egan’s family and many friends.  Father Egan died in the Minnesota Vets Home in Luverne.  His large funeral was held in St. Mary’s Church in Ellsworth, with Bishop Quinn and Bishop Harrington and about 20 fellow priests were present.  Father Egan was buried in the Ellsworth cemetery.  Blessed be Father “Gene’s” memory.

Our sympathy to the Lee Oertli family in the loss of their husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  Lee died in the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne on June 25th.  His large wake service was held at the Adrian Funeral Home and his funeral was at St. Adrian Catholic Church on Thursday, June 30th.  Lee is survived by wife Coletta, daughter Jean (Dean) Hamman both of Adrian and daughter Sue (Chad) Schreier and family.  Many people connected to the Veterans Home came Wednesday evening and to the funeral on Thursday.  Lee’s roommate Cliff came in a wheelchair and on display were four books, one for each year Lee spent at the V.A.  There were hundreds of beautiful pictures in each book.  Also on display were craft items Lee made in the home.

Full military honors were performed at the cemetery.  Lee’s brother was the late Ben Oertli and his wife Chris.  Their seven children were present; Alan, Bill, Dave, Marie, Laura, Kathy and Joanne.  Missing was Tim in California.  Now that is loyalty!  Father Beerman gave a beautifully homily.

Lee Oertli served our country during the Korean War.  Blessed be the memory of Lee Oertli.

Don’t forget to give your precious blood on July 6th.
