Be a Better Friend

“Friends can hurt friends, and it is possible to take a joke too far,” pointed out Andrew, one of the Youth Frontiers directors for the Kindness Retreat held last week.

For fifth grade students, the retreat was an opportunity for area schools to join together to stress kindness, and throw out a kindness boomerang. “If you throw out compliments, they’ll come back to you,” Andrew added.

Fifth graders worked together in large and small groups during the retreat, which was offered on two days for the different area schools. On Thursday students from Worthington, St. Mary’s, Heron Lake-Okabena, Adrian and Ellsworth took part in the retreat. On Friday, additional students from worthington and students from Round Lake-Brewster and Fulda were in attendance.

The all day retreat gave students a chance to look at the different unkind actions that take place in their schools, and try to determine ways to “make our school a better place.”
