Cross Country Sections ~ High Temperatures and High Hopes

0

It was the warmest section meet temperatures in memory as the Luverne Cardinals hosted the section 3A cross country section meet on their own school grounds. The high 60’s temperature and low winds provided a wonderful backdrop for the looping slightly undulating course with one challenging hill that everyone had to climb twice.

The boys were first this year, as the meet alternates starting positions from boys to girls each year. They were 20 complete teams and 146 state hopefuls. Adrian was one short of a full team.

Both Brody Loosbrock and Josh Barr did come along to the section meet to cheer on their male teammates. Managers, Madison Leopold and Taya Elias, were also along as usual, marking runner’s hands, handed out bibs and decided who was going to which mile marker to yell out times.

At the start of the boy’s race, Brady Henning, Christian Weidert, Caleb Hornstein and Colton Lynn lined up in the small starting slots at the south end of the course. The well lined course had a half mile plus, straight away start.

The gun went off and Brady started much like a bullet. His goal was to get to the front and hold on as he knew that his chance at state was in the balance. He ran at the front of the pack for nearly a mile but slowly faded in his more usual spot just behind the front pack.

He maintained the placing for the second mile. The hectic start though took it’s toll and Brady sunk out of contention. Brady gave it his all and his time reflected that, his strategy after everything did not hurt his chances finishing under 18 minutes at 17:58 and a 22nd place. This was Brady’s fourth best time of the year, only five seconds and six seconds slower than his third and second best times.
