Dawayne Henry Preuss, age 80, Lakefield, died Friday, September 6, 2019, at the Sanford Worthington Sunset Hospice Cottage surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 10, 1938, in Alba Township, Jackson County to Walter and Elsie (Beermann)  Preuss. He was baptized on January 1, 1939, at St. John Lutheran Church in Okabena. At the age of eight, Dawayne and his family moved to a farm by Windom. Dawayne was confirmed on March 29, 1953 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Windom. He graduated from Windom High School in 1957, and joined the Minnesota Army National Guard  in the fall of the same year.

On January 1, 1961, Dawayne married Alice Matasovsky. The couple had three children, Linda, Ron and Tom. During that time, Dawayne farmed. He and Alice later divorced.

Dawayne married Susan Braun on July 1, 1984, and added to the family two step sons, Tim and Paul. The couple lived in Lakefield. Dawayne started working at AgCo in 1978, where he continued working for the next thirty two years until his retirement. They moved to the country in 1989 and both enjoyed  hobby farming.

He had many interest and hobbies. Hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren were among  his top loves – along with camping, bowling, coaching 4H softball and church softball teams, dirtball and watching his grandchildren play sports. Dawayne and Sue did a great deal of traveling to many states for national bowling tournaments. They always drove due to Dawayne’s disdain for flying. The couple also took several family fishing trips to Canada.

Dawayne is survived by his wife, Sue of thirty five years, Lakefield; a daughter, Linda (Scott) Place, Lakefield; two sons, Ron Preuss, Newtown, MO; and Tom (Christine) Preuss, Adrian; two step sons, Tim (Melody) Braun, Lakefield; and Paul (Jackee) Braun, Dunnell; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three siblings, Sharon (Willis) Hinkeldey, Lakefield; Gordon (Dixie) Preuss, Sherburne; and Marlys (Dan) Milbrath, Okabena; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
