DeJong to represent team USA at Pan-American Championships

Hunter DeJong competed this past weekend at the UWW Cadet National Championships in Akron, Ohio.. DeJong placed 5th and claimed All-American honors in the Greco division.

In freestyle, DeJong came through to place 7th and earn All American honors once again.

The champions of each bracket will represent Team USA at the World Championships in Athens, Greece. Since DeJong was the only 85 kg wrestler to place in both styles, he was selected by USA Wrestling to represent the United States in the Pan-American Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. DeJong will compete in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle in early July.

Hunter DeJong is the son of Heath and Wendy DeJong of Sibley, IA and the grandson of Gary and Jackie Rodrigue of Lismore, MN and Harold and Jo DeJong, Ellsworth, MN..  Hunter is a Senior at Sibley Ocheydan High School and has competed in three Iowa State Wrestling Tournaments.  He placed 4th at 195 last season.   Hunter says of his accomplishment, “this is a once in a lifetime experience!”  Good luck Hunter and team USA!
