Ellsworth News 10-10-18

Mimi Drenth of Rock Rapids; her daughters, Mary Ruth and Aaron Kierkviet from LaCrosse, WI  and Angie and Tanner Lamb from Cedar Rapids, IA spent Sunday at Ruth Birkett’s.  They helped Skip celebrate his birthday.

Ellsworth was buzzing with a lot of people this past weekend.  Many attended Parkview Manor’s 13th annual Holiday Bazaar and bake sale on Saturday at the Ellsworth school.  The class of 1968 also celebrated their 50th class reunion, beginning with a tour of the school at 3:00 p.m., followed by social time and an informal meal at Mickie’s.

On Sunday Father Tom Jennings said the last mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Losing the Church was hard enough, but losing Father Tom after 15 years, and his bringing  St. Catherine and St. Mary’s and the communities together is even a greater loss.  Father has taught us the value of prayer, putting church into action beyond the church doors, and to go out and “Be Jesus” in the world.

After the emotional weeks we all have had, I leave you with this final thought written by Gladys Harvey Knight. “If the whole world is upside down and joy and cheer are far from you, romp for an hour with a six-year old child and see if his/her laughter and faith are not a veritable sign post on the road to happiness……”

Have a safe and happy week!
