After opening their 2016-2017 basketball team with a 52-49 win on Friday night over Heron Lake Okabena the Dragon girls saw their one game win streak come to an end with a five-point loss to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Saturday afternoon. Both games showed signs of early season play with multiple turnovers and poor shooting performances. The Dragons committed 46 turnovers and connected on just 36% of their shots in the two games.

After junior post Paige Bullerman gave the hometown Dragons a 2-0 lead, the visiting Wildcats outscored Adrian 10-5 over the next six minutes to claim a 10-7 advantage. Trading baskets for a three minute span the Dragons would grab the lead back at the 9:57 mark when freshmen Moriah Bullerman netted a fieldgoal giving them an 11-10 lead. Bullerman would again tie the game at 13 apiece when she turned a steal into two points.

Paige Bullerman would put together back-to-back fieldgoals and when senior wing Mikayla Jeffers scored her two points of the contest the Dragons held a 19-13 lead with four minutes to play in the opening period. Adrian’s Alexia Kemper would give Adrian their last points of the half and helped the Dragons take a 26-17 lead into the break. Paige Bullerman led Adrian through the first half with 11 points.
