Amid threatening skies and unfavorable forecasts, the Conference cross country meet in Slayton ended in favorable conditions, especially for October 17. The plush grounds of the Slayton Golf Course hosted the six schools in Adrian’s Conference. Ellsworth rejoined the fray, but have only two eighth grade male runners.

A one mile junior high race started the meet. Running the boys and girls separately, Adrian had only one runner in each race; Josh Barr for the boys and Abbey Leopold for the girls. Brody Loosbrock moved up to the varsity race and Ashlee Christians suffered a concussion ice skating over the weekend.

The girls were up first and Abbey held her own. She placed 16th out of twenty runners with an awesome 9:01 time. Josh, still suffering some shin splint issues, ran exactly a minute behind at 10:01.    He also placed 16th. The team is so proud of all the work and determination these two put in this year. They improved so much and the team hopes to see their continued improvement next year.

Varsity girls consisted of 43 young ladies and five complete teams. The winding and overlapping course laid before them with two trips up the tough steep hill, unaffectionately nicknamed “Big Bertha”.

Out again for the Dragons was Morgan and Courtney Penning, leaving eight Adrian hopefuls.     Rejoining the varsity team was Jasmine Kohorst who figured in the team scoring.

The pace was frantic from the start and Moriah Bullerman kept pace running third until just after the 2 mile mark. She passed the eventual third place HLO runner and beat her by 12 seconds. Moriah’s time, like many this day, was a slower 21:49.
