Softball has been a part of Marlin Boom’s life since 1958 when he started tagging along with his brother to the field in Valley Springs. He soon began playing and it has been a part of his life since. By the time he was 40, until his retirement, he figures that he played in 160 plus games a year. He comments, “I played on every softball diamond within 100 miles of here, I know where they all are!” Marlin was honored for his dedication to the sport with an induction into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame on October 29th. Marlin didn’t have a clue that the President of the Border League, that Marlin still is an umpire for, had nominated him for this honor. When asked for stats information he laughed and comments “we didn’t keep the scorebooks after the summer, I played because I love it, not for the stats.” He did concede that “yeah I was pretty good.”
