Nine Runners Save Their Best for Home

With a two week layoff due to the cancellation of the Luverne meet, the Dragon cross country team took to the trek. The winding course at the Adrian Golf Course had 16 schools participate. There were four races: a 2100 meter combined junior high race, the varsity girls and boys varsity usual 5K and a combined junior varsity 5K.

A cool and windy day awaited the team. The pre-meet drizzle stopped before the first race of combined junior high girls and boys. Jasmine Kohorst continued to join Abbey Leopold and Ashley Christians for the girls and Josh Barr was the lone boy as Brody joined the varsity boys. Jasmine hopes to join the varsity race again at Conference on the 17th.

The first to come across was Ashlee at 9:37. She was 14th, the top Dragon placer on the day. Jasmine, gaining her pace again, was only 30 seconds later in 25th. Then less than a minute later, Abbey finished 33rd at 11:01 out of 40 runners.

Josh is still battling shin splints, but he gutted out a 13:14. Except for Jasmine, these three runners will be done after Monday’s conference meet. They have shown a lot of heart and worked hard this year.

The varsity girls were up next with 106 runners and 12 complete teams. The team did not do so well placing 10th but all six ladies ran personal bests (ruling out the Redwood race which was probably short).
