Dragons squeak by HL-O

The Dragon baseball team used a Ryan Wieneke SAC fly to edge HL-O by a score of 3-2 last Tuesday in Adrian.  Landon Rogers pitched well in relief to earn the victory on the mound.

The Dragons got off to a lead in the first inning.  Jake Stamer led off with a single up the middle.  Nate Lonneman followed by reaching on an error by the short stop.  Zack Loosbrock then hit a ball that was dropped by the center fielder, loading the bases with no outs.  Nick Harder plated Stamer with a SAC fly.  The Dragons were unable to score anybody else and the score stood at 1-0 after one.

Both teams went rather quietly in the second.  HL-O took the lead in the third with two runs off of starting pitcher Alex Loosbrock.  Mitchell Wagner made a great play at first and the Dragons were able to turn a 3-6-3 double play to escape further trouble in the inning.

Adrian quickly tied the score back up in the bottom half of the third.  Lonneman started the inning with a walk and stole both second and third base.  The next two batters made outs.  Wagner then came up with a clutch two-out RBI double to score Lonneman.  After three the game was tied 2-2.,

Neither team was able to score in the fourth or fifth inning. The Dragons were able to take the lead in the sixth however.  Pinch hitter Skylar Polzine reached base to lead off the inning by walking.  Alex Loosbrock then re-entered to run for Polzine.  The pitcher promptly tried to pick Alex off, throwing the ball wide of the first-baseman.   Alex was able to reach third on the play.  Ryan Wieneke then hit what would be the game-winning SAC fly to left field.

Landon Rogers shut the door in the top of the seventh, and the Dragons were able to come out with a win.  Rogers threw 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball in relief.  He did not allow a hit and struck out four.  Alex Loosbrock started the game.  He threw 5.1 innings, allowing two runs and struck out ten batters.

Offensively the Dragons were led by Wagner who had an RBI double.  Stamer and Zack Loosbrock had the only other hits for the Dragons.  Wieneke and Harder each had an RBI, while Alex Loosbrock scored a run.

The Dragons are now 11-5 (8-2 conference) on the season.
