Adrian News – Jan 25

Our sympathy goes out to Karen Erpestad and her family.  Karen is the pharmacy tech at Adrian Sterling Drug.  Her husband Reid C. Erpestad passed away suddenly on January 10, 2017, he was 64 years old. A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Osterberg Funeral Home, Lakefield.

Our sympathy to Elaine John and the six children of “Bud” John.  Bud died January 15th and his funeral mass was January 18th at St. Adrian Catholic Church.  Officiating was Fr. Rick Colletti.  Pallbearers were his grandsons. “Bud” worked on the farm for Ray Lonneman and then with Robert “Shorty” Munns as a heavy equipment operator.  “Bud” also served our country in the Navy for over three years.  “Bud” was buried in St. Adrian Cemetery.  He loved the outdoors and had a faithful dog “Stevie” at his side.  Blessed be the memory of “Bud” John.

LuAnn and Ron Reisdorfer hosted a holiday party on January 7th for the five “Spartz sisters.”  Those attending were:  Nancy Van Valenberg of Elk River; Cindy and Tom Sieve, Wilmont; Mary Vortherms and friend David, Sioux Falls, SD; and Sue and Tony Paulzine of Iona.  There was lots of good food, lots of chatter and lots of reminiscing.

Kay Cox was one of many who attended the funeral services for Ralph Sunde on Thursday, January 19th at the Zion Lutheran Church in Adrian.  Pastor Kerry Boese officiated at the funeral.  Ralph, who never married, graduated from Luverne High School  in 1943.  Ralph was very cheerful and volunteered for many church and community activities.  He was so proud of his Norwegian heritage and visited Norway several times.  He served his country in the Army and received seven medals including the Purple Heart, which few people knew about.  Ralph volunteered to be a school crossing guard for 15 years helping children safely cross Highway 75 by the Luverne schools.  Ralph was buried in his Norwegian sweater and many of his nieces and nephews wore their Norwegian sweaters to his funeral.  It was a sign of great respect to a humble man who always had a smile for everyone.  After the noon luncheon in the Lutheran Church, a long procession traveled to the Kenneth Cemetery for Ralph’s final resting place.  Blessed be the memory of Ralph Sunde.

It was good to see the KSFY T.V. clip of students from Adrian High School volunteering to carry the books and equipment from our downtown library to the New Vision Elevator temporary home.  Those same students from the video also help with the Red Cross Bloodmobile.  They are involved in sports and other activities as well.

This reader loved the phrase  “Lonneman Wall” in the Review.  That fits the two cousins Mitchell and Nate who do make a great wall playing basketball this year.

Over 80 years ago this writer K.C. remembers her mom saying many times, “you do not have to like the man running for office, but you must respect the office!”  I thought of that many times as I watched the whole Inauguration last Friday.  Yes, I watched CNN for over 15 hours.  There were six Presidents sitting together on the same platform.  History in front of us by T.V.

The football game Sunday between Green Bay and Atlanta was not the best, but a camera shot showed Ex-President Jimmy Carter and his wife Roselyn at the game.  He was on the platform at the Inauguration on Friday.  That was just two days earlier and he is in his nineties.

Sunday’s Argus had a very long obituary about the death of Roselyn Vortherms who has lots of ties to the Adrian area.  Her funeral Mass was on Wednesday, January 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD.  She was a great lady who will be dearly missed. Blessed be the memory of Roselyn Vortherms.

The Two Buck meal was last Wednesday at the Senior Center and they served 33 guests.  Provider was Lorraine Jones.  Lots of hot coffee and lots of “chatter”.  Thanks Lorraine.
