Adrian Over Edgerton 2-0

Ian Stamer righted the ship for the Adrian Dragon baseball team on Thursday.  The game was the first of a double header against Edgerton, as well as the conference opener.  Stamer threw a complete game shutout to get the win on the mound, allowing two hits and walking three.  He had four strikeouts and induced two double plays to get the win.  Polzine, Luettel, and Hokeness each had hits for the Dragons.

Stamer got in trouble in the top half of the first as an error, hit, and walk loaded the bases with one out.  Stamer got out of the inning by striking out a batter and inducing a pop up to short, and Edgerton was unable to plate a run.  The Dragons got hits from Brent Hokeness and Skylar Pozine in the bottom half of the inning.  Both runners later came home to score, Hokeness on a balk and Polzine on a wild pitch.  After one inning of play the Dragons had their first lead of the season, 2-0.

Stamer walked the first batter of the second but promptly got a pop up to second that turned into a double play.  The next batter popped out to third to end the inning.  Lance Luettel singled and stole a base in the bottom of the inning.  But the Dragons were unable to take advantage and the score remained 2-0 Dragons.

Stamer set down the side in order in the third.  Jeffrey Cauwels reached base on an error and Polzine walked in the third.  Each runner stole a base but were stranded on the second and third to end the inning.

The Dutchmen got a hit in the fourth, but two Stamer K’s ended the inning.  The Dragons went down in order to end the innings.  The game was still 2-0 Dragons after four.

The fifth started with a Dutchmen walk.  However, the runner was retired when Stamer got a ground ball to second baseman Grant Jansma.  Jansma flipped to shortstop Noah Reyne who threw to first baseman Polzine to get the double play.  The next batter popped up to Stamer to end the top of the fifth.  The Dragons went down in order in the bottom of the inning.

Edgerton was retired in order in the sixth to end the game.  The Dragons got their first win of the season by a score of 2-0.

The Dragons moved to 1-2 (1-0 conference) on the season.
