Lismore News 11-20-19

Congratulations to Alan Rust and Karla (Krogman) Gedell on their November 14th marriage in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  Karla and Alan both have ties to the Lismore community.  Karla is the daughter of the late Lee and Alma Krogman and Alan is the son of the late Ken and Marilyn Rust.  The couple are 1969 graduates of Adrian High School and make their home in Roseville, MN.

Veryl and Avis Stoffel attended the Veterans Day program at Brandon Elementary school with their great grandchildren, Kamryn and Carter Darling.  The program was pretty impressive; they even had a red carpet rolled out!  Each student walked with their veteran down the red carpet.  Kamryn and Carter escorted Great Grandpa Veryl, who was wearing his vintage army side cap.  Who was the most proud–Veryl and Avis or Kamryn and Carter?  Lucas and Sarah Darling of Brandon, SD are the children’s parents; Grandparents are Alan and Ellen Henning of Lismore. It’s wonderful to see the schools honoring the veterans and teaching the students about the sacrifices they made.

Jack and Nancy Brake were on hand to witness their granddaughter, Mallory Brake, signing a letter of intent to play basketball at Creighton University.  Mallory is a senior at Hastings High School and the daughter of Mike and Tonya Brake.  The Brakes hosted a reception at their home with many of Mallory’s past coaches in attendance. Congratulations, Mallory!

The First Presbyterian Church served a luncheon consisting of chili, vegetable beef, and chicken noodle soups with an array of desserts to many guests on Sunday. Good food and fellowship were a hit with everyone.  The crowd is always excited to see who will get the traditional “mystery cooler”.  The one catch to winning the bid on the cooler is —the buyer must bring it back next year filled with something new!  Karon Nagel returned the cooler this year and the lucky “winner” was Gengler Sons Dairy. The cooler was filled with household “goodies”. The Genglers will have a year to think about what to put in it for next year’s winner! What a fun way to carry on tradition and stretch your imagination!

The community offers sympathy to Mike and Patty Buysse on the death of Mike’s brother, Ron Buysse of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was a retired employee of the US Postal Service.  Ron was a US Marine who served during the Vietnam War and a proud member of the American Legion in Minnesota.  He lost his battle with cancer on November 16th at the age of 70. Blessed be his memory.

Debby and Frank Wieneke were weekend guests in the home of their son, Darin Wieneke and his wife, Dr. Maria Vu in St. Paul.  They helped celebrate Kaia’s 9th birthday along with her sister, Adrian.

The American Legion Auxiliary will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m.  The members will make plans for the Feather Party on Sunday, November 24th and hosting Bingo at the Adrian Country Cottages Assisted Living on Tuesday, December 3rd.

Ecumenical Thanksgiving services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 27th beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to join family, friends, and neighbors for an evening of prayer and song. A collection will be taken for the Manna Food Shelf in Worthington. Refreshments will be served following the service. Please plan to attend.

Joyce Erdman spent the day with her daughter Gail Erdman of Ierton, IA and Randy Egenes and daughter Grace of Hawarden, IA at the home of Gail’s daughter, Danielle and Elliot Apland in Chester, SD. They had a great time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Abbie, Callie, and Jewel, while their parents were on vacation.  The paternal grandparents came to take over until Danielle and Elliot returned.
