Lismore News – June 1

The Legion Hall was “bursting at the seams” again when local folks, out-of-towners, and many former residents of Lismore gathered on Memorial Day to remember those who have died for our freedom.  The Auxiliary, American Legion, and Sons of the American Legion (SAL) had another well-planned program, which included a speech by Noah Roerig, (grandson of Marv & Ruth Lorang) titled “Was it Worth It” and prayers led by Pastor Tom Voigt.  Mark Loosbrock sang ”Memorial Hallelujah” and Ruth Lorang read the poem “Remembering,” which was originally written by Kay Cox of Adrian.  Brent Feikema and Avis Stoffel read a long list of deceased veterans from our area and gave special recognition to the recently deceased veterans, namely: Don Hendel, Gilbert Metz and Chad Sachen.  Dean Knips quietly accompanied them on the piano.  Darwin Veld announced the names of the scholarship recipients: Collin Kemper, son of Chris & Mindy; Marissa Veld, daughter of Troy & Cindy of Lismore; Olivia Weidert, daughter of Jim & Kris; and Nick Lorang, son of Mark & Janine. The American Legion Post #636, S.A.L., Auxiliary, Buck & Rita Krogman family, Earl & Joyce Erdman family, and the Clair & Dorothy Springman family fund those scholarships. Frank Kemper, President of the SAL, presented a check to the Legion for $2,500.   After visiting all three cemeteries with taps being played by Nick Lorang, a potluck dinner was served.  It was a wonderful day to remember and honor those who died for our freedoms.

Now that school is out for the summer, please watch for additional “kid traffic” in order to have a safe and happy summer.

Nancy Decker of Yale, SD is spending time with her mother, Joyce Erdman.  They, along with Pam & Mark Luettel of Adrian and Jennifer Luettel of Mankato, met Rod & Ruth Erdman at their home in Pipestone on Monday afternoon.  They visited the grave of Robbie Erdman, son of Rod & Ruth and grandson of Joyce.  They ended the evening with their favorite pizza at Dar’s.  What a great Memorial weekend with family and friends!
