Wrestlers Go 2-1 in St. James

The Adrian wrestlers traveled to St. James last Tuesday to take part in a quad with St. James, United South Central, and St. Clair.  The Dragons fell to the host team to start the evening, but battled back to record a pair of dual meet victories over USC and St. Clair to end their night.

In the first dual, the Dragons jumped out to a 9-0 lead, as Jesus Anaya wrestled an outstanding match against Troy Parulski at 106 pounds, defeating the Saint wrestler by a 9-4 margin.  Breyer Hieronimus forced over and pinned Geovanni Flores in 2:30 to give the Dragons a 9-0 lead.  Rilee Heidebrink wrestled well at 120, but came out on the short end of an 11-7 decision.  At 126 pounds, Logan Taylor pounded Wyatt Westcott on his way to a 14-1 major decision.  The Saints sent highly-touted Sam Kulseth out at 132 against Dominiq Canales.  Kulseth earned a fall over the Dragon junior in the first period.  Isaac Bullerman gave the Dragons a boost at 138, pinning Austin Krickrehm with 5 seconds left in the second period.  The Saints rattled off four consecutive victories from 145 to 170, before Cameron Wieneke earned a 13-6 decision at 182 pounds.  The Saints put the dual away with victories at 195 and 220, before forfeiting to Scot Edwards at HWT, making the final score 42-28 in favor of the Saints.

The Dragons faced St. Clair in the second dual of the evening, defeating the Cyclones by a 66-18 margin.  Jesus Anaya got things going with a 12 second fall at 106 pounds. Forfeits to Breyer Hieronimus and Rilee Heidebrink at 113 and 120 gave the Dragons an 18-0 lead.  Logan Taylor earned a fall in 3:37 at 126 pounds, pushing the Dragon lead to 24-0.  A Cyclone fall at 132, cut the lead to 24-6.  Isaac Bullerman won by forfeit at 138 pounds, before the Cyclones and Dragons swapped falls at 145 and 152, respectively.  Quentin Wolf forced over his opponent in the 152 pound match.  The squads exchanged forfeits again at 160 and 170, before Cameron Wieneke earned his second victory of the night with a fall at 182.  St. Clair forfeited the rest of the way out to Max Lehmann, Jaren Winselman, and Scot Edwards.

Adrian was able to earn their second victory of the evening, defeating USC 45-33 in the nightcap.  The Dragons jumped out to a 12-0 lead, as David and Jesus Anaya accepted forfeits at 106 and 113 pounds.  Breyer Hieronimus fell  at 120 pounds, making the score 12 -6.  Logan Taylor and Isaac Bullerman accepted forfeits at 126 and 132 to push the Dragon lead to 24-6.  USC cut the lead to 24-21 with three consecutive victories.  Quentin Wolf wrestled well at 160, forcing over Matt Beyer to earn a fall in 3:07.  Preston Nelson worked his way to a 7-3 victory at 170 pounds to give the Dragons a 33-21 lead.  A Rebel fall at 182 cut the Dragon lead to 33-27 with three matches to go.  Max Lehmann wasted little time with his opponent at 195 pounds, recording a first period fall.  The Rebels kept things interesting with a fall at 220, before Scot Edwards put the dual away with a fall in the HWT bout.

Quentin Wolf was named the varsity OW, as he went 2-1 with a pair of falls on the night.  Micah Bullerman was named the JV OW, as he recorded a fall in his only match.
