Dragon comeback falls short against TMB

The Adrian Dragon football team scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but fell to TMB by a score of 20-14 last Friday night. The Dragons received the opening kick but couldn’t get any type of offense going, punting after three plays.  Adrian’s defense forced a fumble on the third play of TMB’s drive to get the ball back.

Adrian managed a first down, but turned the ball over on downs as they were stuffed on a fourth and one play.  TMB’s QB broke loose on the second play of their possession before being caught from behind by Marshall Wagner at the Dragon 10 yard line.  On third and goal from the five, Preston Nelson deflected the Panther pass into the arms of Christian Weidert for the interception, keeping TMB out of the endzone.  The Dragons managed to drive the ball down to TMB’s 29 yard line before turning it over on downs.  The Dragon defense was again up to the task as they held the Panthers to just six yards on the following possession.

Both teams went three and out on each of their next possessions.  The Dragons got a break when a punt from Dominic Canales was muffed by the TMB returner.  The ball was recovered by Skylar Dingmann to give the Dragons another possession.

Adrian could not capitalize on the drive as they threw an interception with 53 seconds remaining in the half. Tracy mustered one first down before time ran out in the half.  At halftime, the game was scoreless.

TMB received the second half kickoff and drove the length of the field for the games first touchdown.  The drive covered 79 yards and took six minutes and 25 seconds off the clock.  Their PAT was no good leaving the score 6-0 TMB.

The Dragons threw an interception on the second play of their drive, setting the Panthers up on the Dragon 18 yard line.  Tracy would use the field possession to score their second touchdown in three minutes of game action.  The two point try was successful making the score 14-0 TMB.

Adrian would gain one first down on their next possession before punting the ball back to TMB.  TMB punted after just three plays to give the Dragons the ball on the Panther 49 yard line.  The Dragon offense finally found the endzone when Brandon Schnoor took a fourth and goal handoff six yards for the score.  Canales’ PAT was good, making the score 14-7 TMB with 5:42 left in the fourth quarter.

The Dragons had a chance to get the ball back on a fourth and eighth, but were unable to stop the Panther offense.  The drive eventually ended up in the endzone for a Panther touchdown. The PAT was no good leaving the score 20-7 TMB with 2:14 left to play in the game.

Adrian refused to go away and scored in one minute on their next drive.  The touchdown came on an 11 yard pass from Wagner to Ian Stamer.  Canales’ PAT was good making the score 20-14 Panthers with 1:14 to play.

The Dragons ensuing onside kick was recovered by Adrian’s Axel Martinez to give the Dragons one last shot in the game.  However, after gaining 11 yards the drive came to an end when the Dragon pass was intercepted, essentially ending the game.

Offensively the Dragons were led by Brandon Schnoor who carried the ball 20 times for 68 yards and a touchdown.  Dakota John carried 13 times for 45 yards.  Wagner carried four times for seven yards. Nelson and Trace Kremin rounded out the Dragon ground game with one carry for three yards each.

Wagner was 10 of 20 passing for 117 yards, one TD and two interceptions.  Stamer caught six passes for 79 yards and a touchdown.  Kremin caught two passes for 29 yards.  Brady Vortherms added one catch of 21 yards in the game.

Defensively the Dragons were led by Dakota John, Logan Taylor, Nelson, Scot Edwards, and Lance Luettel who all had nine tackles.  John and Edwards each tallied a sack while Taylor had a tackle for loss.  Wagner, Kremin, and Schnoor all had five tackles.  Stamer and Skylar Dingmann were each credited with four tackles including a sack from Dingmann.  Christian Weidert had three tackles and an interception while Devin Frodermann got in the action with one tackle.

The Dragons (0-2) will look to get in the win column next Friday when they travel to Springfield.  The game will kick off at 4:00.
