Lismore News 09-12-18

It was a breezy, but sunny fall day for the St. Anthony bazaar and auction on Sunday.  The turkey & dressing was delicious and the candied carrots were so good you could have eaten them as a dessert—although there were plenty of other tasty desserts, too!  There was something for everyone on the auction block—meat bundles, vegetables, wall decorations, jars of pickled asparagus, beets and brussels sprouts, homemade horseradish, frozen corn, John Deere bench and glider, blankets, certificates for services, various themed baskets and oodles of other donated items. One of the items that brought a big donation was Fr. Colletti’s “Dinner at the Rectory”.  Kay Cox of Adrian was the lucky winner of the quilt, which was made and donated by Pam Kramer.  The auctioneers moved along quickly so no one should have gone home hungry or empty handed!! It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Be sure to visit our neighbors in Adrian for the St. Adrian Fall festival on September 16th.  They are proud to say they serve REAL mashed potatoes with their dinner. You may also visit the Country Store or buy a Big Ticket chance.  It’s a great way to spend time with your family and support our parish cluster activities.

Marv Kern attended the wedding of Conner VanDyke & Jade Giese at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Slayton on Saturday.  Conner is the son of Terry and Carrie (Kern) VanDyke and the grandson of Marv and the late Fran Kern.  Other local guests included Marty Kern and Todd and Kristine, Greg, Morgan and Michaela Kern.

Special get well wishes to 7-year old Lawton Nelson, son of Layne and LuAnn Nelson of Stanley, ND and grandson of Doris Diekmann.  Lawton has been hospitalized at Fargo, ND for the past month.  He is receiving treatment for lymphoma.  Visiting and supporting the Nelson’s through their long journey in the past weeks have been Doris Diekmann, Marcie Cowan, Tom and Lisa  Diekmann, and Jeff and Jill Diekmann.  Lawton is now staying at the Ronald McDonald House.  Please keep him in your prayers.

The American Legion Auxiliary will have their first meeting of the 2018-2019 year on September 19th beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Serving lunch will be Joyce Erdman and Chris Rokeh will provide Bingo prizes.  The group is calling out for new members. Membership eligibility is based on being a mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter or grandmother of an American Legion member, the same relation to a deceased veteran serving in selected conflicts or a female veteran serving in those same conflicts. Eligibility also applies to step-relatives. Anyone interested and eligible should contact Mary Ann Loosbrock.

Andy and Michele Wieneke and family attended the wedding of their nephew, Drew Cheskie and Makayla Driscoll on Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth.  It was the last wedding ceremony at St. Mary’s before the church goes into oratory status.  The Wieneke’s granddaughter, Hadley, was one of the flower girls.  She is the daughter of Morgan and Carter Ziebarth.  Father Tom Jennings used Hadley’s “Hungry Caterpillar” book for the homily.  Drew is the son of Suzanne and Jereme Lenz of rural Ellsworth and the grandson of Herman and Eileen Wieneke (formerly of Lismore) of Ellsworth. Congratulations, Drew and Makayla!

The Lismore American Legion members have begun offering raffle tickets on an American Flag themed quilt donated by Pam Kramer.  An avid quilter, this quilt is number 35 of the 37 that Pam has made and donated—all done in the same flag pattern. Simply beautiful!  The quilt is available to view at any of the Legion or Auxiliary functions. A lucky winner will be drawn at the Feather Party in November. Thank you, Pam, for sharing your talents.
