The old man’s hunting club met Saturday morning on the banks of Badger Lake (North) for its customary opening of the 2016 waterfowl season. Gone are the days of the 12 noon starting time. It was a good time allowing room for an early lunch after setting up the decoys. The table fare consisted of fried chicken, fresh buns and apple pie. It was easy to fall asleep on the warmer openers when you dined heavily. The number of hunters reached more than a dozen and covering a large area of the shore. This year it’s tapered off to two hunters and one spry 16 year old dog. After the predawn rush it settles down to an occasional chance. The eight a.m. coffee call was a highlight with a hot cup of coffee and a prepackaged Honey Bun. We didn’t hurt the population of ducks and geese much. Tradition was upheld somewhat. Next year we can only hope to repeat the event.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown had two sons. One was named Mind Your Own Business & the other was named Trouble. One day the two boys decided to play hide and seek. Trouble hid while Mind Your Own Business counted to one hundred. Mind Your Own Business began looking for his brother behind garbage cans and bushes. Then he started looking in and under cars until a police man approached him and asked, “What are you doing?” “Playing a game,” the boy replied. “What is your name?” the officer questioned. “Mind Your Own Business.” Furious the policeman inquired, “Are you looking for trouble?!” The boy replied, “Why, yes.”

Lena has a clever method of getting Ole to do something….she just suggests that maybe he’s too old to do it.
